Tope Keku, Your Career & Personal Growth Coach

Sudden life challenges can be overwhelming. Maybe you feel confused in your marriage, personal or professional life. I get it. I walked through a series of trials of fire, homelessness, and financial crises all in one year and came to the end of myself. These persistent problems left me feeling abandoned by God. Some days it felt like I was sinking into a dark bottomless pit.

I am passionate about women and the challenges they face daily.

In the process of doing life, I encountered some storms that have strengthened my faith and dependence on God. I blog to inspire and restore hope to women in difficult situations and also empower them to dig for hidden treasures in their challenges.

Trust

How has the Lord guided you in 2018?

Five years ago, I adopted the practice of having a One-word resolution for the year.

Early in December, I begin with prayer and read the scriptures with an open mind. As I study several scriptures, I make a note of the word that connects with my heart. This practice has helped me to grow as I look for where God is working through that One-word during the year.

My word for 2018 was TRUST.

I wrote this prayer at the beginning of the year.

Lord, thank you for a new year and your many blessings. I pray for forgiveness of our sins and mistakes. May we approach the new year with the hope of your peace, joy and abiding presence. May we experience your favor and blessings in new ways. Help us grow deeper in our trust and let us enjoy the benefits of our training over the last 10 years in the school of life.

What did trust look like in 2018?

According to Miriam Webster Dictionary, trust is an assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.

As I focused on trust, my faith increased and as the year progressed, I had several opportunities to serve God in new ways. However, with each opportunity, I experienced major spiritual attacks that left me wondering.

Just before major speaking engagements, my family faced a health crisis that threatened to derail my commitments to fulfill these assignments (read here). Frequently, I declared to my soul, “Rise up because your hope is in God.”

I clung to hope and several scriptures on trust to get me through. The word “yet” became symbolic and I would tell the enemy, it is not over until God says so. I choose to trust Him.

Trust gave me:
Grace for every trial.
Tender mercies and love.
Daily manna.
Peace and divine comfort.
Guidance all the way.

Looking back at 2018, I couldn’t ask for a better guide.

Friend, may I encourage you to think about 2018 and reflect on your relationship with God and others, your experiences both in good and challenging situations, missed opportunities and the blessings you received.

What are you grateful for and what lessons did you learn? What will you do differently in 2019? Consider recording your thoughts in a journal.

Prayer: Lord, I pray that you will refresh and renew our faith in 2019. Help us have a closer walk with you and may our year be filled with an overflow from your heart. Amen.

Thanks for riding with me in 2018. Happy New Year!
