Prayer: The Heart of One Mother
A Listening Heart

Sarah (not her real name) knows this pain too well. Her son Michael had drifted away from his faith, though he was raised in a Christian home and was taught the values of love, kindness, and faith. As he grew older, Michael began questioning his beliefs and eventually turned away from the church.
Sarah’s heart broke as she watched her son distance himself from God. She felt a sense of guilt and often wondered if she’d failed as a mother. She also felt a deep sense of loss, mourning the spiritual connection she once shared with her son.
Do you have adult children who have turned away from their faith due to busy lifestyles, previous hurts or disappointments, skepticism, doubt, pride, self-sufficiency, or the influence of the world?
If you’re a mother praying for the salvation of your adult children, know that you’re not alone. Many of us can relate to Sarah’s story as we navigate the challenges of faith and family.
Praying for the salvation of your adult children is a powerful demonstration of love and faith. It shows that you trust that only God can truly change hearts and bring about salvation. It also means we recognize that no matter how old our children are or whatever circumstances they’re facing, they still need God’s saving grace.

Consider writing each verse on a 3×5 card and turning it into a personal prayer for your adult children.
3 Powerful Ways to Pray for the Salvation of Adult Children
Despite her deep pain, Sarah turned to prayer. She sought God’s guidance and intervention in Michael’s life. She found comfort in scriptures like John 3:16, which reminded her of God’s immense love for her son, and John 10:10, which spoke of the abundant life that God desires for all His children.
No matter the barriers keeping our grown-up children from pursuing a relationship with God, you and I can find relief in the scriptures as we partner with God and pray for their salvation.
- Pray for their hearts to be softened: Ask God to soften their hearts towards Him and to open their eyes to His truth.
- Pray for divine encounters: Ask God to bring about divine encounters and opportunities for your adult children to hear and respond to God’s love and truth.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit’s work: Ask the Holy Spirit to convict them of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and them to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
A Mother’s Heartfelt Prayer for the Salvation of Adult Children
Heavenly Father, I come to you with a troubled heart, praying for the salvation of my adult children. I pray that they will come to know the depth of your love for them, as your word says in John 3:16. Lord, I ask that you protect them from the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy and that they would experience the abundant life that Jesus offers, as stated in John 10:10. Lord, I know that you desire a relationship with them. I pray that you will break down the barriers that keep them from seeking you. Whether it’s a busy lifestyle that doesn’t allow them enough time for spiritual matters, previous church hurts or disappointments or struggles with doubts and relevance of faith, or believing that they can handle life on their own, or the influence and values of the world that lead them away from you. I ask Father for your grace and mercy toward them. I pray that you soften their hearts towards you and open their eyes to your truth. Help them to see the emptiness of worldly pursuits and to find fulfillment in a relationship with you alone.
I acknowledge, Lord, that we have all sinned and fallen short of your glory, as Romans 3:23 tells us. Yet, I hold onto the truth of John 14:6, that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. Draw my children’s hearts to you and sanctify them by your truth just as your word says in John 17:17. Lord, lead my adult children to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Put your hedge around them so they can no longer run from you. Help them to make peace with you because you alone can fill the void in their hearts. I trust in your timing and your plan for their lives. Psalm 119:105 says that your word is a lamp to our feet. May your word be a lamp to my adult children’s feet and a light to their path, and may your word guide them in the way they should go. I pray with all my heart and with thanksgiving. Lord, I trust in your unfailing love and faithfulness. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
Praying for the salvation of your adult children is a powerful act of faith, love, and perseverance. As mothers, we can trust that God hears our prayers and is working in their lives, even when you and I can’t see it. Let’s keep praying, believing, and trusting in God’s perfect timing. He is faithful, and His promises never fail.
Remember, you are not alone in praying for the salvation of your adult children. God is with you, supporting you, and interceding for you. Keep pressing on, knowing that your prayers are making a difference in their lives.
