Have you ever felt like the weight of your child’s struggles was just too much to bear?
The other day, I felt completely overwhelmed. I had been praying for one of my children for a while, waiting on the Lord for an answer. But instead of relief, more challenges kept coming.

Then, I opened my Bible and read Psalm 62:8—
“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.”
I realized that God wasn’t asking me to hold it together at that moment. He was inviting me to pour out my heart to Him—completely, honestly, without shame.
Maybe you need that reminder today. If your heart is heavy for your adult child, I want to pray with you.
A Prayer for Our Adult Children
Father, thank you for the precious gift of our adult children. We love them so much, but we know that you love them even more. Lord, we come to you today on their behalf. Many of our sons and daughters are struggling—some battling addictions, depression, and anxiety. Others are lost in rebellion, peer pressure, or generational strongholds. Some are simply overwhelmed by life.
Your Word in Isaiah 59:19 says: “For He will come like a pent-up flood that the breath of the LORD drives along.”
Lord, we declare that you are raising a standard against the enemy in our adult children’s lives. Let your truth wash over them. Bring repentance where it is needed and renew their minds.
Father, we ask for your intervention. Send your Holy Spirit to break every chain and set them free. Deliver them from the enemy’s lies, confusion, dysfunction, and the burdens they weren’t meant to carry.
As 2 Corinthians 10:5 says, we tear down every argument and every thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God. We take captive every lie, every fear, and every stronghold, and we make it obedient to Christ.
We declare freedom over our sons and daughters!
We declare peace over their minds!
We declare hope over their futures!
Father, we trust you. Thank you for loving our adult children even more than we do. Open their hearts to know you, to hear your voice, and to embrace your love (Luke 24:45). In Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.
