The world often defines us by our roles, achievements, and external appearances, so it’s easy to lose sight of our true identity. But you and I have access to a mirror that reflects our authentic self, the mirror of God’s goodness. Let’s explore how we can discover and embrace our true identity through God’s unwavering love and promises.

As I sat on my bed, deep in thought, I pondered how to pick up the broken pieces and navigate the Tsunami of personal storms I was facing at the time. I pulled out my worn-out Bible, my devotional, and my journal. Life’s challenges seemed to have blurred my reflection in God’s mirror. This challenging season in my life began my journey of unveiling the masterpiece within me through the promises of God.

Over time, through God’s Word, I began to see and embrace my true identity in Christ. Imagine an artist meticulously creating a masterpiece, being intentional with each brushstroke and revealing the beauty hidden within the canvas. Similarly, our Heavenly Father is the Master Artist who crafted you and me with purpose and precision. Now picture Him whispering to your soul, “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.”

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14

Friend, pause and reflect on this truth: You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Your quirks, imperfections, and unique qualities are part of God’s intentional design. Embrace them because they are brushstrokes of God’s goodness.

The Broken Mirror: Lies vs. Truth

The world often hands us a distorted mirror. This broken mirror in our hearts reflects lies about our worth. We battle with low self-esteem and are haunted by our mistakes. And often, we hear whispers that we’re not enough, that our mistakes define us, or that we’re invisible. But God’s Word shatters these lies. In Jeremiah 1:5, He declares: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I set you apart.”

This means you and I are known, chosen, and set apart. Let’s reject the broken mirror of lies and doubts and gaze into the mirror of God’s love and truth.

Goodness of God: The Reflection of Grace

Perhaps, like me, your life looks messy, too, filled with splatters of pain, regrets, and missed opportunities. But here is the truth: our identity isn’t based on performance, perfection, or circumstances. It’s rooted in grace. Listen as God gently whispers His grace to your heart from Ephesians 2:8-9, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

You and I don’t need to earn God’s love. We can forgive ourselves and embrace the masterpiece He is creating. God’s grace transforms our brokenness into beauty. When you feel unworthy, remember that His grace covers you. You are accepted, forgiven, and loved beyond measure.

The Reflection of His Love: “You Are Mine.”

Jesus tells the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15. Now, let’s reimagine it as the story of the prodigal daughter. Like her, you and I wander, make mistakes, and doubt our worth. Yet, when she returns home, her father runs to embrace her. That’s how our Heavenly Father’s heart is toward us, running, arms wide open, saying, “You are mine.”

Friend, God’s love for you is relentless.

3 Powerful Steps to Help You Discover Your True Identity

Discovering your true Identity in Christ requires taking intentional steps daily to apply God’s promises to your life and having a heart that’s open to transformation. Consider the following three practical steps:

  1. Meditate on Scripture
    • Set aside time each day to meditate on scripture verses. Reflect on their meaning and how they relate to your identity. Write them down in your journal, pray, and personalize them.
  2. Daily Affirmations
    • Turn these verses into personal affirmations. Speak them aloud daily. For example:
      • “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
      • “I am known, chosen, and set apart.”
      • “I am accepted, forgiven, and loved beyond measure.”
  3. Renew Your Mind
    • When negative thoughts or self-doubt arise, combat them with God’s truth. Replace lies with the promises found in Scripture.
      • When you feel unworthy, remind yourself of Ephesians 2:8-9.

God’s mirror awaits you, friend. As Christian women, let’s exchange our cracked mirrors for the unblemished mirror of God’s goodness. If you look closely, there, in the reflection, you’ll see a beloved daughter, fearfully and wonderfully made, embraced by grace.
