Have you ever looked at your adult child, grown up now, making choices you never dreamed they would make, and felt that their heart had turned to stone? That no matter what you say or how much you love them, they seem unreachable?
A Listening Heart
Take the first step towards healing and growth. Book your free call now and let’s journey together in faith and friendship.
You’re not alone, dear friend.
In the book of Ezekiel, God looked at the people of Israel in their rebellion, idolatry, and stubbornness, and promised something incredible:
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. (Ezekiel 36:26)
God saw their divided, wounded, hardened hearts and still loved them enough to promise healing.
Likewise, our adult children today can end up with divided hearts, too, and be weighed down by anxiety, depression, addiction, and the wounds of this world. Although we can’t change their hearts with our words or even our best intentions, we can pray.
And prayer is powerful. It is a powerful weapon in our spiritual toolbox
God alone can reach deep into those stone-hard places and make them soft again. He can breathe life into dead places, just as He did in Ezekiel 37 when He spoke to dry bones and made them live again.
Maybe your child’s heart feels dry. Perhaps it feels dead. But, sister, God can resurrect even the hardest of hearts.
Today, let’s stand together and pray that:
- God would soften their hearts.
- He would remove every rebellious, selfish, or wounded pattern.
- He would heal their emotions, renew their minds, and give them a spirit that is tender and responsive to Him.
And while you pray, ask God to give you courage and patience to keep trusting Him. Sometimes the transformation happens slowly, but remember God is working behind the scenes. In the waiting, He is growing your own heart to trust Him more.
Take heart, friend. God is still in the business of healing. Nothing is too far gone for Him.
Prayer for Our Wandering Adult Children

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for who you are. You are mighty, compassionate, and work wonders. You see our children, every broken piece, every wounded place, every sin, every rebellion, every bit of hopelessness. Lord, nothing is hidden from you.
Your Word says in Ezekiel 36:26, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
So today, as mothers, we stand in agreement and ask You for a miracle.
Father, remove the hearts of stone from our adult children, the hearts that have become hardened through disappointments, sin, trauma, and rebellion. Give them a heart of flesh that is soft, alive, beating with your love, responsive to your voice.
Breathe fresh life into them, just as you breathed life into dry bones in Ezekiel 37. Lord, wake up what is dead! Restore their hope, their dreams, their sense of worth.
Lord, heal every divided heart. Where they have been torn between the world and you, make them whole and undivided. Pour out your Spirit, as You promised in Ezekiel 11:19.
Lord, give our adult children a hunger for you that no addiction, no relationship, no distraction can satisfy. Break every chain that holds them back. Remove all self-hatred and shame, and flood them with your peace, your love, and your purpose. We ask that you surround them with wise voices, healthy relationships, and a desire to walk in your truth.
Strengthen us, Lord, as mothers. Help us to trust your timing, even when we don’t see immediate change. Give us courage to keep praying, keep loving, and keep standing in faith.
We declare today that our grown-up children will be restored, redeemed, and transformed by the power of your Holy Spirit. We pray in the powerful and majestic name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
