A Gift of Streams in the Desert

What a great month it’s been!

Several big events happened during the last few weeks. These events are a welcomed change from the status quo of continuously being in the “desert”.

I see these events as God’s way of providing streams in our desert experiences. Although our desert was often marked by fears and uncertainties, God showed up in surprising ways.

He makes streams in the desert. I praise Him for his constant faithfulness. On May 27, 2017, I wrote in my journal:

This day is a gift of streams in the desert.

My oldest son and his fiancée were getting married.

We were blessed with a new daughter to love and cherish.

The Lord provided all the resources for the engagement and wedding. He guided me in the details of selecting vendors, venue, food, and our outfits.

Even though weddings can be stressful, the Lord helped us work together as a family to make everything run smoothly.

He also blessed us with a family reunion. Because of the wedding, I was reunited with my siblings and their spouses who came all the way from Nigeria. I had not seen some of them in over 30 years.

During the celebrations, I was joyful beyond words. All I could think of was, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His Holy name” (Psalm 103:1), as I gave thanks to the Lord silently. In my mind, I saw the whole event as a stream in the desert, a gift from the Lord.

Throughout the engagement and wedding ceremonies, the presence of the Lord was so real and palpable. It was such a joy to hear His name proclaimed. It was also beautiful to see many friends come and celebrate with us.

Two weeks later, we also celebrated our daughter’s graduation from high school.

God continues to be faithful. He blesses us with streams of celebration, joy, laughter, and cooperation even when life is messy. He deserves every praise!

Prayer: Lord, I bring my sacrifice of praise and give you all the glory and honor, for you have been my strength and hope. Amen.

Scriptures

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us! What joy! Restore our fortunes, LORD, as streams renew the desert. Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest. Psalm 126:3-6
