A Lesson on Love

IMG_1685 There was famine in the land. The children of Israel went to Egypt in search of food. Because their brother Joseph was the second in command and in charge of food, they settled in Egypt. Over time, they became numerous and a new king who did not know about Joseph oppressed them ruthlessly. They were in slavery for 400 years. During this time, they were subjected to all kinds of cruelty and hard labor. Their conditions were so bad that the Israelites cried out to the Lord. The Lord heard their cries and was concerned about them.

So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them (Exodus 2:25).

What motivated God to be concerned?

Love…..The same love that motivates Him to be concerned about you and me.  A recent event reminded me of how God cares for me through others.

Our part of the state does not usually get a lot of snow.  However, this winter has been unusual with three snow storms in less than 3 weeks.  On this particular day, my husband came home from work and told me that there were some trash bags on the ground near my car.  My initial thought was that some neighborhood kids playing in the snow left them there.  Then I asked my youngest daughter if she knew anything about the bags. IMG_2688

She said, “Yes, I placed them there in the morning when I heard it was going to snow again.”  I did not want you to fall when you go to drive to work.  In addition to laying the bags on the ground and securing them with bricks, she cleared my windshield.  However, I did not leave the house that day because more snow expected so I did not see the bags until much later.  Our drive way is on a slope and I have fallen many times when we have had bad weather.  On several occasions this winter, she watched me from the front door as I made my way down our treacherous driveway to my car.  Her actions were out of concern for my safety.  I was moved by her love.

My daughter’s care and concern reminded me of God’s love for his children.  He is concerned about you and me. IMG_1478

He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber (Psalm 121:3).

Friend, do you know that everything that concerns you concerns the Lord?

Father, I am grateful for your love and for the individuals through whom you show me your love.  Thank you for caring for me so deeply, in Jesus Name. Amen.

But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; You are more valuable than many sparrows (Matthew 10:30-31).
