Do you have a favorite place to unwind? A place just to be at peace?

Everyone has some place where they like to relax.  One of my favorite places to unwind is the beach. Walking on the beach, feeling the breeze on my face, seeing the waves and the vastness of the ocean is soothing and makes me feel at peace. At home, my idea of relaxation is being in my bedroom with a good book, a blanket and some tea. When the full moon is out, I often sit quietly and meditate while giving thanks for the beautiful moonlight shining through the skylight.

I take the stairs several times during the day at work to help me refocus and relax. One day, while going  down the stairs, it dawned on me that the space under the stairs was vacant. I adopted it as my special meeting place to pray while at work. My favorite places to relax are also my special places to pray.

A special meeting place is somewhere we go to unwind, pray and meditate and is free of distractions. In Exodus, Moses was chosen by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery from Egypt. His job was not easy as the people complained all the time.  He recognized that he could not lead the people without meeting regularly with God. Moses also had a special meeting place.

Moses was intentional in his relationship with God. He set up a tent away from the camp, which he called, tent of meeting (Exodus 33:7). He went there to meet with the Lord often. When he went to this special place, God met him there in the form of a pillar of cloud and talked with Moses face-to-face as a man speaks to his friend.

Even though Moses had a close relationship with God, he wanted to go deeper still. Moses asked God, show me your glory and God obliged (Exodus 33:18). When we make time to pray and study the Word, we are following Moses’ example. The Lord is sure to meet us there just as he met with Moses.

Keeping regular appointments with the Lord is necessary if we want him to fill our souls and reflect his glory. Moses had a godly shine. His face was radiant after spending time with God (Exodus 34:29). We too can enjoy the blessings of glowing faces, that reflect inner peace and contentment as we encounter the Lord daily.

As we draw near to God, He will draw near to us. (James 4:8). The results of meeting regularly with God are a deep intimate relationship and a desire to tell others about Him.

Intimacy, prayer, and worship grow out of a deeper connection with the Lord.

Prayer: Lord, I desire a closer relationship with you. Help me to make time to meet with you daily and grow in your wisdom. Let your beauty shine in me. Help me to tell others about your faithfulness. Amen

Where do you meet with the Lord regularly?  Is it a beautiful view from your deck, the mountains, outdoors while exercising, or a special closet in your home?  I’d love to hear about your special meeting place.

  1. My special meeting place is in my bedroom, sitting on my bed with my Bible close by. It’s where I go at the end of every day, not just to go to sleep, but to spend time with the Lord beforehand. I also love being out in nature; it’s one of the times that I feel closest to Him. 🙂 Thank you so much for this post – I enjoyed reading it! ?

    1. Hi Maggie, Thanks for sharing about your special meeting place. It appears we have some things in common. We both love to read, meet the Lord in our bedroom and enjoy being out in nature. I go for a jog or walk most mornings and I usually spend this time talking to God or listening for His voice.
Btw, I love your latest post. Blessings!
