Recently, I was scheduled to give a major presentation that would be telecast live across the State. Five days before the event, my face was covered with bumps. I thought it might be allergies, so I took some allergy medicine, but the rash didn’t go away.
All kinds of thoughts flooded my mind.
No one will hear anything you say.
They’ll focus only on the ugly bumps on your face.
I scheduled an appointment to see the doctor two days before the presentation.
I was desperate.
How Do You Trust God When the Prescription Makes No Sense?
When I saw the doctor, I told him about my presentation and asked for a prescription that would clear the rash within two days. After examining my face, the doctor looked perplexed and said he would be right back. While he was gone, I whispered a prayer, Lord, give him the wisdom to prescribe the right medicine.
The doctor prescribed a shampoo and asked me to wash my face with it for a week. If the rash were not gone by then, we would try a stronger medicine. I sat in disbelief and turned inwards to have a dialogue with God.
Me: Lord, you’ve got to be kidding me. A shampoo?
I can’t speak with these bumps on my face. Lord, you heard what the devil said about how people will not hear what I say because they will be focused on the bumps on my face.
Quietly, I heard God’s whisper in my spirit.
God: Do you trust me?
Me: Yes
God: Didn’t you ask me to give the doctor wisdom?
Me: Yes.
God: I did. Now take the prescription and get going.
The doctor didn’t know about my conversation with God. He wished me well, and I left.
I was beyond disappointed. It made no sense. Would the shampoo make my rash disappear by two days?
Growing in Trust and Faith: God’s sense of humor
My experience reminds me of the story of the 10 lepers that Jesus encountered on his way to Jerusalem between Samaria and Galilee. These men were outcasts because of their leprosy. From a distance, they called out in a loud voice,
Jesus, Master, have pity on us! Jesus said to them, go show yourselves to the priest (Luke 17:11-19).
Jesus’ instructions didn’t make sense. But the men obeyed. And as they walked to the priest, all 10 lepers were healed. One of the lepers, a Samaritan, returned and thanked Jesus. He received physical as well as spiritual healing.
Rise and go, your faith has made you well. (Luke 17:19)
I picked up the prescription and washed my face with the shampoo. Guess what? The rash disappeared by the day of my presentation.
God has a great sense of humor.
He doesn’t always work according to our thoughts. His ways are so much better than we can imagine. God has a way of helping us to grow in trusting you.
My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts, says the LORD. And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. Isaiah 55:8
This experience with the rash on my face reminded me of my word for the year, “Trust.” Will I trust God when his instructions don’t make sense? Perhaps the 10 lepers were perplexed just as I was, but trusting God requires obedience and faith.

Tope, thank you for this. If we’ll always remember these two words God says to us – “TRUST ME”, we’ll have the strength to face lives problems with hope and a smile.
