What comes to mind when you think of Easter?

Spring is in the air……a season of freshness, warmer weather, flowers blooming and trees coming to life again. It is time to trade heavy winter jackets for light coats.  I love spring because of the new life all around me and also because it is time to celebrate Easter.

This week, I have been reflecting on God’s faithfulness and extravagant love as I studied Deuteronomy chapters 1-26. These chapters chronicle God’s faithfulness to the children of Israel.  Seventy Israelites went to Egypt and settled there. Over time the Lord blessed them and their numbers increased to over 2 million.  With this blessing, came oppression from their Egyptian masters.  They cried onto the Lord, their God.  He heard their cries and delivered them in miraculous ways, even though they sometimes rebelled against God.

Now as they were about to enter the promised land, Moses reminded the Israelites to remember all that the Lord “your God” has done.

Easter also calls for reflection… … A time to reflect on the Cross and its meaning!

Easter-A Time to remember hope and renewal

God created the heavens and the earth. He created man and woman and placed them in the Garden of Eden.  Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, were tempted by Satan to disobey God. They ate the fruit that God commanded them not to eat.  Their disobedience resulted in a curse.  Therefore, as their descendants, everyone inherits their sin and guilt.

God sent his one and only Son Jesus Christ to die as a remedy for my sin and your sin. His sacrifice guarantees that anyone who places their faith in Jesus for salvation will have eternal life (John 3:16).

Easter is a time to think about the Wondrous Love that slayed his only begotten Son so that you and I might have life!

It is a time to reflect on the price that Jesus paid on the cross to redeem you and me from sin, shame, condemnation and death.

It is a time to reflect on our eternal inheritance in Christ.  Oh what love, that laid aside his crown for my soul….for your soul.

Father, I thank you for the cross and its power of redemption, forgiveness, new life, and hope.  Help me remember what it cost you. Help me to surrender all to you, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

 Scripture

Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. (John 1:29)

Through Christ’s death on the cross, those who turn to him are delivered from both the penalty and power of sin. (1 Peter 2:24-25)

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8)
