On April 12, 1961, the Soviets sent a person into space. The U. S. also established a space program under the direction of President Kennedy. Their mission was “to land a man on the moon and return him safely to earth.”

Jesus came to the world with an important rescue mission of hope. One day, while in the temple, Jesus picked up a scroll and read Isaiah’s prophecy about his mission to everyone. Jesus’ 5-fold mission was to:

  • Bring hope for the poor
  • Healing for the brokenhearted
  • New eyes for the blind
  • Preach to prisoners‘You are set free!’
  • Share the message of Jubilee

Jesus’ 5-Part Rescue Mission of Hope

Finding new Hope in God's rescue mission plan

During my time with Jesus today, I reflected on the impact of his rescue mission on my life.

    • Bring hope for the poor.
      • My husband and I relocated to the U.S. in our mid to late twenties. We were graduate students in a new country without our families and had limited resources. Jesus was our hope. He led us to a church where we experienced his love and care through a fellowship of believers.
      • Healing for the brokenhearted
        • I know a thing or two about a broken heart and brokenness. As I look back, the period of brokenness is when I felt the most connected with Jesus. On those dark days, he was my Son-light. When I had no words, his presence brought calm and hope. His comforting presence provided physical, emotional, and spiritual healing and strength to hope again.
      • New eyes for the blind
        • There’s a saying that you don’t know what you don’t know. We all have blind spots. I’m often unaware of my blind spots, but others help me see them. I’m thankful that I can ask Jesus to help me with my blind spots. Jesus not only heals physical blindness but spiritual blindness. He convicts us of areas where we need to grow. The key is to be open and have a teachable spirit… I’m still a work in progress 🙂
      • Preach to prisoners‘You are set free!’
        • I am a prisoner of anything that holds me in bondage. In today’s world, many things imprison us, whether social media, addictions, bitterness, unforgiveness, comparison, envy, divisiveness, taking offense, anxiety, and so on. His desire is to set us free. I’m grateful to Jesus for helping me overcome bitterness, offense, and unforgiveness.
      • Share the message of Jubilee.
        • This one is a biggie! The message of Jubilee is at the very core of God’s love for all his children. Jesus came as the sacrifice to redeem you and me. He came to pay for the penalty of our sins. Every day, I thank God for the gift of Jesus. Without him, my future and yours would be bleak! Because of Jesus, you and I are FREE. We have hope now and for all eternity. Hallelujah! Thank you, Jesus!

While on earth, Jesus connected daily with ordinary folks like you and me. His miracles were personal… he healed a demon-possessed man, Peter’s mother-in-law, and others with various illnesses. Jesus brings New Hope to all who are willing to receive him through God’s rescue mission.

What do you think about Jesus’ Rescue Mission, and how is it currently shaping your life? I’d love to hear about your experience. Feel free to share your insights in the comments.
