“I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.” Isaiah 45:3 NIV
When I first read this verse, I didn’t understand what it meant. However, as I meditated on the verse and asked the Lord for insight, the meaning became clear. Hardship, trials, and suffering are not events that anyone would volunteer to sign up for. Suffering is often accompanied by pain, either physical, emotional or both. However, if we are willing to seek the Lord’s perspective, we will find that buried within our sufferings and trials are hidden treasures and riches. With the right perspective, our suffering and trials can yield good fruit such as perseverance, patience, kindness, and compassion. I am grateful that my trials are helping me grow and discover God’s greater purpose, which is to develop my character.
