Prayer Treasures -Keeping Short Accounts

Welcome to Day 15 of Prayer Treasures.

Do you want your relationship with God and others to run smoothly? Do you desire to walk in the path of everlasting life?

Scripture Treasure
Search me, O God, and know my heart, test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. Psalm 139:23-24 NLT

Do you have a car? How often do you service it?
My guess is you probably take it to the garage regularly, maybe every 3 months or 3000 miles for service maintenance. At the garage, the mechanic will check your engine oil, your fluids, brakes and other parts of your car. If everything checks out fine, they will replace your engine oil, and fill up the fluids and send you on your way.

Keeping short accounts with God is like taking your car for regular service maintenance.
It is inviting God to examine my heart and asking for his cleansing power to help me deal with anything that he reveals.
In prayer, I ask for his forgiveness and repent. Depending on what is revealed, it may take a while to deal with it.

Let’s say, I said an unkind word to someone, and the Lord brought it up when I asked him to search my heart. I have a choice to ignore it or ask God to forgive me. I can repent, apologize to the person, and receive God’s forgiveness and love.
Friend, I admit, this process of keeping short accounts is not easy but if you are willing, it will be like engine oil to your relationship with God and others. It will keep it running smoothly.

Why is it necessary to keep short accounts with God?

Friend, you and I are a work in progress, so we are not perfect but keeping short accounts with God is a necessary part of growing closer to him. It is also a part of loving God and others well.
