Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:1
Give Thanks
As you and I reflect on this week, let us pause and give thanks to God for his faithful love.
Hannah was a barren woman. She cried to the Lord in prayer and waited on God. In due time she gave birth to a son and named him Samuel. She returned to the temple and dedicated her son to God.
Hannah expressed her joy and gratitude to God with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. In 1 Samuel 2:1-10, Hannah blessed God for his love and faithfulness.
Let’s look at part of her prayer in verses 1-2
My heart rejoices in the Lord; in the Lord, my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies for I delight in your deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord; There is no one besides you; There is no Rock like our God. 1 Samuel 2:1-2
Hannah did not boast in her own strength but recognized that she overcame barrenness because of God’s mercy. She rejoiced and gave thanks because the Lord rescued her and made her strong. Hanna’s heart was overflowing with joy and thanksgiving.
Like Hanna, and the Psalmist, in what ways will you look back on this week and let your heart overflow with thanks and praise to God for his mercy and faithfulness in your life, in your health, in your job, in your family and relationships.
