In a few hours, across the nation, families will gather around the table to celebrate Thanksgiving with turkey, gravy, dressing, and all the other fixings. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the opportunities it provides to connect with loved ones and reflect on the good things in our lives.
This morning as I reflect on Thanksgiving, I am reminded of all the gifts I have received, and I feel blessed. I am grateful for the wonderful opportunity to do life with my spouse and children, family, and friends. I am grateful for the hard times, good health, shelter, food, provision and the blessings of living in this great nation.
A few years back, my family started a new tradition where each person cooks their favorite dish and we share a meal together afterward. I am grateful for the joys of cooking and sharing a meal together as well as the fun memories we create. I am thankful for the delicious meals and the nourishment it provides for my body.
What’s the effect of thanksgiving on the soul?
An aspect of thanksgiving I cherish the most is its effect on the soul. When I count my blessings and give thanks, I feel satisfied in my soul. Just as eating a meal and spending time with family and friends satisfy my physical body and my need for emotional connection, Thanksgiving provides soul satisfaction. I feel a sense of fullness in my soul.
And the result of soul satisfaction?
Joyful lips.
Lips that overflow with gratitude from the heart. Lips that burst forth in praise to Jehovah, the source of all blessings.
Let us remember how He has given us drink from the fountain of His delights and shout for joy and sing His praise.
Let us praise Him who has set before us a feast of rich food and well-aged wine.
The Lord is good and worthy of praise. Let us allow our lips to sing His highest praise.
Join me in singing His highest praise.
Happy Thanksgiving Friends!
I will praise you Lord with all my heart, I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done. Psalm 9:1
