A friend and I met for coffee recently.  We both experienced the deaths of our mothers earlier this year so this was an opportunity to catch up and encourage each other.   During our conversation, I said to my friend, “I feel like I am growing up”.  She said, how so?   I shared with her about how I was not easily flustered anymore.  Lately, I have noticed that I am more patient and waiting for something is not as hard as it used to be.

Micah 7:1-6  describes the misery of the Israelites and the evil they were experiencing at the time.  However, in verse 7, the Prophet describes a watchful waiting in hope for the Lord. This type of waiting is filled with expectation, anticipation, and trust in the Lord.  It is waiting not in anxiety but with confidence and firm assurance in God that deliverance will come.  In my own waiting, I find that more and more I am looking to God as the;

Source of my strength

Strength of my life

One who hears the cries of my heart.

I am encouraged that in my “waiting” the Lord, the Creator of the Universe is working on my behalf to make “all things” both good and bad work together for my good.  During my time of waiting, God is working behind the scenes and developing my character in the process.  Abraham and Sarah waited for many years for their son Isaac, Hannah waited for a Samuel, Mary waited for the fulfillment of the birth of Jesus….the Bible is full of accounts of people who waited on God.

Waiting is one of the tools that God uses to refine us, to draw us closer. Waiting teaches us to trust God and His plans for our lives.

Are you in a season of waiting? How are you waiting on God— anxiously or with patience and calm assurance?

Father, help us to embrace our time of waiting and to see the value in it.  Help us trust that you will bring us through.  Thank you for working all things together for our good….In Jesus Name Amen.

Isaiah 40:31; They that wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount on wings as eagles, and they shall run and not be weary.

Psalm 130: 5; I wait for the Lord, my soul waits and in His Word, I put my hope.
