Love is at the heart of our relationship with God, others, and ourselves.

The heart maintains the blood flow in the body. Love releases hope, faith, and compassion. It infuses our souls and relationships with the greatest gift of all.

Tabitha was full of love and care for widows and the poor. Her love language was acts of service. When she suddenly fell ill and died, many widows and the poor were devastated. Crying, they displayed all the robes and clothing Tabitha sewed for them while she was alive (Acts 9:36-39).

God’s love enriches our lives and helps us love him and others well.

Where does this type of love shown by Tabitha come from?

The love that Tabitha extended to the widows in Joppa is beautifully described in 1 Corinthians 13. We can get agape love (unconditional love) only from God.

Agape love is the very essence of God. We receive this love when we put our faith in him. God demonstrated agape love toward us by sending his Son to give his life for us. And through the Holy Spirit, he pours his love in our hearts so we can love him and others just like Tabitha.

Agape love is not dependent on our feelings but requires faith, dedication, and being intentional. It is a gift from God and is available to you and me.

God’s unconditional love releases the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives and strengthens our faith. It empowers us to love others and ourselves well and frees us to walk in our purpose.

To love more, we must pray and ask God for it. To grow in love, we can pray using the characteristics of love described in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

A Prayer to Help You Grow in Love

Prayer to Grow in Love-Christian Life Coaching

Heavenly Father, thank you for your unconditional love for me. I want to grow in love and put on your garment of love daily. Help me to walk your most excellent way—the way of love.

I put on patience

Thank you that your love is patient. Help me not to be impatient with others and myself or be easily irritated when things don’t go according to plan. Empower me to be patient and show love in my interactions and with everything that comes my way today.

I put on kindness

Lord, thank you that your love is kind. Fill me with love that banishes all envy, arrogance, and pride. Replace pride and self-promotion with your love that encourages others. Help me to walk in humility and extend kindness to those around me.

I put on a love that rejoices in truth and grace

Father, your love is not jealous but rejoices in truth and grace. Help me not to think evil of others or be easily provoked. Thank you for helping me let go of offenses and forgive others just as you have forgiven me. Guard my heart against sin and help me to gently restore others to your love with truth and grace.

I put on a love that protects

Tabitha cared for the widows and poor in her community. Lord, grant me a heart of compassion and willingness to serve others around me.

By faith, I put on a love that never fails

Thank you, Lord, that you never give up on me. May I be empowered by your Spirit to always trust you and endure through every circumstance. Thank you for preparing me today to walk in love, forgiveness, and spiritual victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Without God’s love, our relationships will crumble under the weight of jealousy, envy, pride, judgment, comparison, selfishness, and dysfunction.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. John 15:5

With God’s help, we can grow in love and extend agape love to our spouses, children, brothers, and sisters. We can show love to extended family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even those who are difficult to love.
