A Listening Heart

Sometimes events from our past can make us struggle with self-love and acceptance. We believe that God is mad with us.

Jana grew up feeling unwanted and unloved. Her mom abandoned the family when she was in first grade. Her dad became an alcoholic, and after a couple of drinks, he would get enraged and call her ugly names, worthless, stupid, unwanted, and useless.

Perhaps you can relate. Maybe like Jana, you struggle to see yourself as God sees you. Perhaps you judge yourself harshly, don’t love yourself, compare yourself to others, and look to others to validate you. You are not alone.

Jesus knows how you feel because he’s been there. He knows the pain and agony of being abandoned and rejected. No one stood up for him when he faced the torture of the Cross. He was forsaken with no one to show him kindness.

But guess what, at that moment, His only thought was about you.

Jesus chose the pain, the shame, the abuse, the humiliation, the torture, and the mocking. He endured it all so that He could show you how much He loves you.

Instead of struggling to relate with yourself and coping in unhealthy ways, it’s crucial that you believe and receive God’s love for you. It is only then that you can genuinely love and appreciate yourself. Friend, God is on your side. He loves you!
